2023-2024 President’s Welcome
Dear Campbell Families,
Welcome back to our returning families, teachers, and staff! To our Sixth graders, new families, and staff: Welcome to the Campbell Middle School (CMS) community! During Sneak-A-Peek and the today I was able to speak with some of you personally. If I was unable to speak with you, I look forward to it throughout the school year.
Campbell is a place my family has called home for 4 years now. My husband and I are in the second year of parenting 3 boys at 3 different schools within Cobb. Our family is big on community and serving. This is my third year as PSTA President and I’m proud to be a part of Smyrna. I’m passionate about equity, education, and creating spaces where people feel they can show up as their most authentic selves. These passions can be difficult, heavy areas to maneuver but I believe that through having tough conversations, growth happens.
We are a School of Excellence and an award-winning organization. The PTSA is a vital component of the success of our children here. Not only do we normally host fun events during the year, but we also help our teachers to bring enrichment and support to each child. Our central focus is to help families get connected, stay informed, and make a difference. So, as we prepare for the rest of the year our board is open to hearing your suggestions and welcomes them, so please email, or speak with us anytime.
Our PTSA Membership Drive is under way! I encourage you and your student to renew or start a new membership for only $10 per person. Our goal is 1,500 members and we believe our Jr. Spartans community can do it! You and your family can join here: https://jointotem.com/ga/smyrna/campbell-ms-ptsa.
When you join our PTSA you also join the nearly 3 million people who are part of the nation's oldest and largest child advocacy association, National Parent Teacher Association and Georgia PTA. Your membership gives you a voice at our meetings, some exciting things that we will unveil soon, and discounts at various businesses.
In addition to this letter, links will be shared to Facebook and Instagram on how to join. Also, our Spirit Wear sale is going on now until September 5th and more info can be found on our website.
Becoming a PTSA member does not mean you are expected Volunteer – however, for our community to be strong, everyone’s participation is essential. Many parents feel they cannot participate because of language barriers, or they cannot be available during the day because of work - please don’t let that discourage you. Whether you have 30 minutes or a few hours, your time, your ideas, your talents, and your voice are truly needed and appreciated. There are endless possibilities for family members to contribute, and we can match any time constraints and abilities to needed tasks.
Our PTSA Board meets monthly, via Zoom, and we are always working as a team to figure out how we can best help Campbell. We work directly with Dr. Havis, the entire Campbell staff, and the Foundation. Our first General Meeting will be Thursday, August 24th immediately following Open House. All Campbell families are encouraged to attend.
Please contact the board anytime about PTSA questions that you may have at cmsptsa1@gmail.com. If you are on social media, follow us on Instagram at @CampbellMiddlePTSA and Facebook at @CMSPTSASmyrna. These will be a source of information as the year continues.
Thank you for your support this year! On behalf of the PTSA Board and I, we wish you all a fulfilling and productive year ahead!
Latoya Palmer-Addy
